Uttarakhand Fortifies Push for Reverse Migration: Empowering Local Self-employment

In a concerted effort to address migration challenges, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led a pivotal review meeting of the Migration Prevention Commission at the state secretariat on Friday. He emphasized the significance of reverse migration, proposing a platform for sharing success stories to inspire self-employment initiatives across the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of women's involvement, aiming to position Uttarakhand among the nation's leading states. He instructed the Secretary of Rural Development, Radhika Jha, to develop a framework to circulate these narratives, integrating them into policy planning. Stressing on skill development, he articulated a vision for sustainable livelihoods through identifying and harnessing local employment opportunities.

Advocating for enhanced support to women in self-help groups, Chief Minister Dhami called for better professional skills to improve product branding and marketing, ensuring equitable returns. Vice President of the Migration Prevention Commission, Dr SS Negi, reported significant reverse migration trends with over 2,000 individuals transitioning to self-employment in agriculture, tourism, and other sectors. The meeting witnessed diverse insights to refine governmental schemes, aiming for collaborative departmental involvement.
