Tahawwur Rana, a key figure implicated in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, appeared in Patiala House Court on Friday. Security concerns prompted his court appearance a day earlier than planned. The NIA Special Court mandated his judicial custody up to June 6, 2025, ensuring a prolonged legal examination.
The 64-year-old Canadian businessman, originally from Pakistan, was recently extradited from the United States due to his suspected involvement in the 2008 attacks. Last week, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) acquired Rana's voice and handwriting samples as part of their investigative efforts.
Advocate Piyush Sachdev, representing Rana, confirmed his client's compliance with the court's directives. Despite this, the NIA continued to argue for extended custody, citing Rana's uncooperative demeanor during interrogations. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover critical details about his alleged connections to the terror attacks.
