In Tripura, more than half of the approximately 9 lakh consumers of the government-run power utility, TSECL, have been lagging behind on their electricity payments for several years, according to an official statement on Monday.
Out of this total, only 4,32,045 users, primarily from urban areas, have been consistent with their payments, leading to a staggering accumulation of Rs 475 crore in pending bills.
While bill payments are satisfactory in urban locations like Agartala, tribal areas such as Tulashikar and Hezamara are witnessing payment defaults. TSECL is actively seeking to address this by visiting consumers and disconnecting connections in some cases.
