The unexpected termination of Rameshwar Prasad Gupta from his role as Chairman and Managing Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) has raised eyebrows in the energy sector. Gupta's term was set to conclude in over a month, when the abrupt order for his dismissal was issued.
Appointed in June 2023 for a two-year stint, Gupta had previously served in significant positions such as Secretary for the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. His expertise was widely recognized as pivotal to SECI, a central public sector undertaking focused on renewable energy growth.
The lack of an official reason for his departure—authorized by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet—has stirred speculation about internal developments within the organization or potential shifts in government policies.
