In a dramatic sequence of events in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, a suspected cow smuggler, identified as Yameen, was injured during a police encounter, according to Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar. This incident unfolded on Sunday evening when police engaged a group of suspicious individuals in Bhavanpur. The encounter resulted in gunfire after the suspects fired upon the officers, triggering a defensive response from law enforcement.
The search for Yameen's associates, believed to also be involved in cow smuggling activities, is currently underway. Authorities discovered several instruments, including knives, on Yameen, further implicating him in nefarious activities. This marks the second such encounter in May, with a separate incident occurring near the Purvanchal Expressway toll under the jurisdiction of Gosainganj police station in Lucknow, as reported by DCP South, Nipun Agarwal.
On May 17, a police team intercepted a suspicious 12-tyre truck near the toll, recovering approximately 20 cattle. CCTV footage identified the smugglers fleeing in a car. Subsequent police action resulted in the arrest of Shoaib, an accused with over eight FIRs, who was injured while his associates evaded capture. A further incident in Agra saw police engage in retaliatory firing, resulting in the death of a murder suspect, adding another layer to the state's law enforcement challenges.
