The Assam government on Tuesday announced a financial aid package of Rs 25,000 for each of the approximately 350 families impacted by a gas blowout at an ONGC oil well in Sivasagar district. The incident, now in its sixth day, prompted immediate efforts for relief and containment.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri met with Delhi officials as both state and national authorities work to handle the situation. The blowout started on June 12 at ONGC's Rudrasagar oil field and efforts to control the leak are ongoing with hopes for resolution soon.

While visiting the scene, Sarma emphasized that stopping the leakage takes priority over compensation, which will be arranged later. Meanwhile, local organization Bir Lachit Sena demanded accountability from SK Petro Services, the firm operating the well, calling for comprehensive compensation for the affected individuals.
