Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a significant meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing on pivotal issues concerning the state. Dhami proposed merging the cantonment areas of Ranikhet and Lansdowne with municipalities to boost tourism and public facilities. Additionally, he sought clearance to utilize military helipads in Dharchula and Joshimath for regional air services and requested a waiver of fees for Indian Air Force assistance in disaster relief work.

The Chief Minister also advocated for the continuation of maintenance on the Tharali Dewal-Mundoli-Van motor road by the Public Works Department, emphasizing its relevance to the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a culturally significant event occurring every 12 years, slated for 2026. The Union Defence Minister assured a positive response to these proposals.

On his agenda with Union Minister Manohar Lal, Dhami sought assistance for Uttarakhand's urban and energy sectors under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), alongside financial backing for hydroelectric projects. He emphasized automating power lines and underscored challenges in adhering to current housing guidelines. Expanding the RRTS to Haridwar was also proposed to ease traffic and stimulate urban growth.
