Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy convened a high-level inter-ministerial meeting on Tuesday with Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy and officials from various central ministries. The discussion focused on securing supply chains of crucial minerals essential for India's electronics and energy sectors, as well as national security.
The Ministers underscored the government's commitment to the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), which aims to make India self-reliant in critical minerals. Participants in the meeting included officials from the Ministries of Atomic Energy, Steel, Heavy Industries, and Commerce.
First initiated by the Modi government in 2025, the NCMM is tasked with creating a self-sustainable mineral framework. As part of the mission's objectives, the Geological Survey of India is set to oversee 1,200 exploration projects from 2024 to 2030. The center also plans to build a Centre of Excellence on Critical Minerals to guide strategic planning and ensure ongoing evaluation of the critical mineral list.
