In a significant move to protect endangered wildlife, Uttar Pradesh's Forest and Wildlife Department, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has embarked on an ambitious initiative. The department announced the development of two new Rhino Rehabilitation Centres (RRCs) in Dudhwa National Park, Lakhimpur, as part of a broader conservation strategy.
A budget of Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned for the project, focusing on preserving rhinos' natural habitats. This initiative encompasses habitat conservation, staff training, and community awareness campaigns to enhance wildlife protection. These efforts aim to ensure sustainable measures for safeguarding rhinos and other endangered species.
The project will see the establishment of RRC-3 and RRC-4, following the blueprint of prior centres. These new facilities will create open forest spaces under special monitoring, enabling rhinos to flourish while maintaining their natural behaviors. Additionally, the plan includes anti-poaching surveillance and local community engagement through training programs, expected to boost the rhino population and biodiversity.
