Air India 171 Crash: Ahmedabad Police Identify 222 Victims
The Ahmedabad Police have identified 222 victims of the Air India 171 crash, with 214 identified through DNA samples. The crash claimed 241 lives, sparing one. New aviation safety draft rules aim to mitigate similar incidents by regulating structures near aerodromes.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik announced on Thursday that 222 victims from the tragic Air India 171 crash have been identified and returned to their families. Among them, 213 were identified via DNA samples.
While law enforcement carries out its investigative duties, collaboration with expert agencies for technical analyses, including the black box, continues. Commissioner Malik emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, detailing that 214 victims were identified through DNA and eight others without it.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has responded by introducing new draft regulations following the crash. Aimed at preventing future accidents, these rules, expected to soon enter into force, will enable authorities to address structural hazards in aerodrome environments proactively.
