In the aftermath of the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, CEO and MD Campbell Wilson detailed the rigorous maintenance procedures followed prior to the accident. Wilson asserted that the aircraft was regularly monitored and had undergone significant checks in recent months, showing no signs of issues before the tragic incident.
Addressing concerned passengers and the general public, Wilson explained that Air India has completed inspections on 26 of its 33 Boeing 787 aircraft, as directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The remaining planes are undergoing planned maintenance. The DGCA has affirmed that Air India's maintenance processes meet adequate safety standards.
In light of recent challenges, including flight delays, Air India has implemented enhanced pre-flight safety inspections on its Boeing 787 and 777 fleets to bolster confidence. This proactive measure will see a reduction in international flights by 15% starting June 20, 2025, to ensure operational reliability while the investigation proceeds.
