A City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) employee has found himself in legal trouble following his arrest for bribery. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) detained Narendra Hirey, a stenographer in CIDCO's telecom mobile wing, on Friday night, revealing the corruption festering within the organization.
Hirey had allegedly solicited Rs 4.5 lakh from a retired employee, promising to facilitate the processing of his dues and oversee his acquittal in an ongoing departmental enquiry. This scheme was hatched for personal gain, implicating other unnamed officials in the process.
Eventually, Hirey settled on a reduced demand of Rs 1.5 lakh. The aggrieved ex-employee then alerted the ACB, who caught Hirey in the act of accepting the illegal payment. Charges have been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, marking a significant victory for the Bureau in its fight against systemic corruption.
