The recent decision by the Karnataka government to raise minority reservations in housing schemes from 10 percent to 15 percent has opened a Pandora's box of political controversy. Congress leader Sukhdeo Bhagat criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its opposition, accusing the party of perpetuating divisive politics.
Sambit Patra, a BJP Member of Parliament, described the Congress-led Karnataka government's move as an infringement on constitutional principles, claiming it exemplifies how political entities prioritize appeasement over the Constitution. He accused the Congress party and the Gandhi family of placing religious appeasement over constitutional integrity.
On the defensive, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed BJP leader Amit Malviya's allegations of vote bank politics, stating that the reservation hike is based on recommendations like the Sachar Committee Report to address implementation shortcomings. Shivakumar asserted that the measure aims to unite, not divide, society.
