Central Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India, has announced plans to open two new coal mines within the current fiscal year. This initiative is expected to escalate the company's capacity by 10-12 million tonnes annually, as stated by a top official on Sunday.

These projects are essential for CCL to surpass 110 million tonnes of production within this fiscal year and to reach an ambitious target of 150 million tonnes by 2030, according to Chairman and Managing Director Nilendu Kumar Singh.

Efforts are underway to commence operations at the Kotre Basantpur block with a peak capacity of 5 million tonnes by October, and the Chandragupt block by March 2026. Additionally, four new washeries are planned to improve the quality of coal for diverse applications.
