Ex-Chief Minister Jagan Reddy Charged with Homicide After Rally Tragedy

Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his aides have been charged with culpable homicide following a fatal incident at a rally. The victim, Cheeli Singaiah, was run over by Reddy's vehicle. The case has been reclassified under Sections 105 and 49 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, a Former Chief Minister, and five aides have been charged with culpable homicide after a 55-year-old man, identified as Cheeli Singaiah, died during a rally. The Guntur police confirmed the fatal accident involved a vehicle used by Reddy.

Initially, the case was filed under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint from the victim's wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary. After reviewing video footage, CCTV recordings, and eyewitness accounts, the incident was reclassified under Sections 105 and 49, indicating culpable homicide without intent to murder.

Permission was granted for Reddy's convoy, consisting of three vehicles, to travel from Tadepalli to Sattenapalli. The incident occurred near the Anjaneya Swamy statue at Etukuru Bypass. Singaiah sustained severe injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Six people were present in the vehicle, including Reddy and other political figures.
