The Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) Reservoir, situated in this district, has been experiencing a gradual increase in water levels, attributed to the recent rains in its catchment areas, according to Water Resource Department officials on Wednesday.
As of 8 AM on Wednesday, the reservoir received a substantial inflow of 4,966 cusecs. The water level stood at 90.39 feet, close to its full capacity of 105 feet. Officials reported that the current water storage is 21.84 TMC feet, against its maximum potential of 32.8 TMC feet. Simultaneously, 1,355 cusecs are being released for irrigation purposes into LBP, Thadappalli, Arakkankottai, and Kalingarayan canals.
This development holds significant importance for the lifeline of farmers across Erode, parts of Karur, and Tiruppur districts, serving irrigation needs across 2.50 lakh acres annually. Additionally, the reservoir fulfills drinking water requirements in various taluks. With continuous inflow, farmers are hopeful for a sufficient water supply this year.
