The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is observing the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, marking it as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' or Constitution Murder Day. The party has placed posters around Delhi, including near India Gate, to acknowledge this pivotal moment in India's history.

This day serves as a reminder of what the BJP identifies as one of the darkest chapters in India's democratic journey. The Emergency, imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and lasting from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, involved suspension of fundamental rights, press censorship, and imprisonment of opposition figures, actions that have since been heavily criticized.

BJP leaders, including Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, have launched strong critiques against the Congress party, accusing it of maintaining the 'Emergency mindset' even today. On 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', observed every June 25, Nadda reiterates the BJP's stance on the Emergency as a significant attack on constitutional values.
