On the solemn occasion marking 50 years since the Emergency of 1975, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing indictment of the Congress regime of that time, accusing it of suffocating democratic institutions and silencing fundamental rights. In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Modi paid homage to those who valiantly stood against the draconian measures, recognizing them as defenders of India's democratic essence.

The Prime Minister remarked, "We salute the resilience of every individual who opposed the Emergency. These brave souls united from diverse backgrounds to safeguard India's democratic framework and preserve the ideals that inspired freedom fighters." He highlighted how their unified struggle compelled the Congress government to return to democratic norms, leading to a decisive electoral defeat.

Reflecting on one of India's darkest chapters, Modi emphasized the severe repression during the Emergency when lakhs were unjustly imprisoned, media voices were silenced, and citizens were stripped of their rights. The Prime Minister reiterated his administration's dedication to uphold constitutional values and drive the vision of a developed India that uplifts the disadvantaged. He also condemned the constitutional abuses, notably the notorious 42nd Amendment, which stained the era.
