Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader CR Kesavan has called on the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, to publicly apologize to the nation on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. Speaking to ANI, Kesavan stated, "The Congress party must apologize for Indira Gandhi's fascist Emergency, imposed 50 years ago."

Kesavan further urged opposition parties such as the DMK and the RJD, who are in alliance with Congress, to encourage the apology. The Emergency remains one of India's darkest periods, with fundamental rights suspended and press freedoms curtailed. The Indian government has officially marked June 25 as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas to ensure these lessons are not forgotten.

On June 25, 1975, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared an Emergency amid political unrest. The event's 50th anniversary will be commemorated at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi, emphasizing the importance of democratic values. Union Minister Amit Shah will launch the 'Long Live Democracy Yatra,' aimed at promoting constitutional awareness across India.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Emergency era as a violation of the Constitution, sharing his views on social media platform X. He denounced Congress' attempt to control democratic institutions and highlighted the adverse effects on marginalized groups during that period.
