Rescue operations are in full swing in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district following a catastrophic cloudburst that led to a massive landslide near Barkot on Sunday. The natural disaster resulted in the tragic deaths of two workers and left seven others unaccounted for. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies remain committed to locating the missing individuals, as confirmed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

In a press briefing, CM Dhami revealed that 20 out of 29 people present at the disaster site have been rescued safely. Unfortunately, two fatalities have been confirmed. The Chief Minister emphasized the necessity for district officials to maintain high vigilance during the ongoing monsoon season.

The landslide, triggered by the cloudburst, occurred near the Silai Band area on the Barkot-Yamunotri road. It led to the destruction of an under-construction hotel. Uttarkashi District Magistrate's office has reported that efforts continue to locate the remaining missing workers, with two bodies already recovered. Furthermore, the local road has been severely impacted, causing disruptions in the region.

The severe weather prompted a temporary 24-hour suspension of the Char Dham Yatra. CM Dhami assured that stranded pilgrims are receiving food, shelter, and accommodations until conditions improve and travel can safely resume. Pilgrims have been halted at various key points, including Haridwar and Rishikesh, as a precautionary measure.

The entire hill state is grappling with the aftermath of continuous heavy rainfall, which has caused multiple disruptions. The Badrinath National Highway, a crucial route for Kedarnath pilgrims, is currently obstructed near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. Authorities are working diligently to clear the roadblock and restore travel access.
