Following a tragic stampede that left three people dead during the Rath Yatra in Puri, the Mayurbhanj district authorities have heightened security measures in preparation for their own festival. Over 100 cameras have been installed, three control rooms established, and police presence increased, including aerial drone surveillance and strict traffic controls.

The Baripada Rath Yatra, which features the unique involvement of women in pulling the chariot of Goddess Subhadra, resumed its second phase on Sunday. Thousands flocked to the streets, demonstrating the festival's deep devotion and cultural significance, as the chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath embarked on their sacred journey.

Meanwhile, heavy vehicle inflow towards Puri caused delays, as Odisha police warned. Consequences of the Puri incident included suspensions of senior police officers and government pledges for compensation and an in-depth inquiry, as Odisha's Chief Minister stressed the importance of festival safety and adherence to tradition.
