In a gripping early morning operation, Delhi Police's Special Staff from the South East District apprehended two armed robbers after a brief but intense exchange of fire. The suspects, Jatin alias Mogli and Akshay, are accused of having attacked and robbed a US citizen in South Delhi's Amar Colony late on the night of June 25-26, as confirmed by officials.
The police reported that on June 26, Fortis Escorts Hospital informed the Amar Colony Police Station about a US national, Aradome Bela Kahn, who had been stabbed by two assailants near Nehru Place. Kahn, who arrived in India recently, was walking with a friend through DDA Astha Kunj Park when the attack occurred. After sustaining severe hand injuries, he was moved to Apollo Hospital for surgery, while his companion reported the attack and the theft of her mobile phone, leading to an official investigation involving CCTV analysis and heightened surveillance.
Aided by a tip-off about the suspects' movements near Astha Kunj Park early on June 29, a police team, spearheaded by Inspector Rajender Singh Dagar, set a strategic trap. When the suspects were spotted around 5:10 AM and commanded to surrender, they retaliated by firing three rounds at the police, striking the bulletproof jackets of Inspector Dagar and Head Constable Mahendar. Responding swiftly, the police fired back, injuring the criminals and securing their arrest. Firearms and ammunition were recovered from the scene, with both accused later confessing to turning to crime out of drug dependency and financial need. Their arrest marks a significant stride in curbing street-level crime in Delhi.
