A tragic stampede during the annual Puri Rath Yatra has led to the deaths of three people, injuring several others, as confirmed by BJP leader Biranchi Narayan Tripathy. He has called the incident 'distressing' and emphasized the need for preventive measures to avert future occurrences.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken immediate action by consulting with departmental ministers and officers. Government officials have been transferred and two police officers suspended as part of the accountability measures. Tripathy reported that families of the deceased would receive Rs 25 lakh as compensation.

A detailed administrative investigation, under the Development Commissioner's supervision, led to notable appointments and suspensions, including the assignment of Pinak Mishra as the new Superintendent of Police. Chief Minister Majhi reaffirmed the priority of festival safety, promising severe penalties for negligence.
