Kolkata Gang Rape Case Sparks Controversy and Urgent Calls for Justice

In light of the shocking gang rape incident in Kolkata on June 25, victim's advocate Arindam Kanjilal has called for severe punishment for the perpetrators, potentially extending to life imprisonment. Kanjilal commended the Bengal police for their prompt action in making arrests, suggesting that the city's police force is sufficient in handling the investigation.

Kanjilal, who knows both the victim and the accused from their academic environment, expressed disapproval of the involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), believing Kolkata police are capable of managing the case. Meanwhile, the incident has stoked political tensions, with BJP leader Gourav Vallabh demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing the ruling TMC of shielding those accused.

The alleged gang rape of a law student has not only shaken public sentiment but also sparked heated political debate.
