In a sharp critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress MP Manickam Tagore has accused the ruling party of turning a blind eye to crimes against women in states governed by them while focusing mainly on incidents in opposition-ruled regions. Tagore's comments come in the wake of the BJP forming a probe committee for a controversial gangrape case in Kolkata.
Tagore pointed out the BJP's contrasting responses to similar situations in different states, emphasizing alleged incidents in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. "The BJP's actions often contradict their words," Tagore said, referencing the Gujarat Bilkis Bano case where convicts were controversially granted remission.
Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized the BJP for prioritizing political narrative over justice. Khera demanded a united societal stance on women's safety issues rather than selective outrage. He emphasized that no incident should be trivialized or politically manipulated.
