In a scathing indictment of West Bengal's ruling party, a BJP fact-finding committee addressed the media on Monday, alleging a breakdown in governance following the reported gangrape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College. Committee member Satya Pal Singh condemned the political environment, citing increased violence and lack of safety for women under the TMC's administration.
BJP leader Meenakashi Lekhi accused the TMC of criminalizing politics by providing protection to lawbreakers, claiming criminals are even being appointed to positions in educational institutions. She criticized the failure to safeguard women, asserting that citizens are paying the price for systemic issues.
Biplab Kumar Deb, another BJP fact-finder, directly challenged CM Mamata Banerjee's ability to protect women, suggesting the appointment of a criminal at a law college highlights governance failures. Meanwhile, MLA Agnimitra Paul called for accountability from the Chief Minister, urging action against party members who disrespect women. The police have arrested four suspects, including Manojit Mishra, as part of the ongoing investigation.
