India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), helmed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has sanctioned the procurement of military assets valued at an estimated Rs 1.05 lakh crore. This colossal approval underscores the nation's commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities through indigenous production.
Included within the acquisition are 12 mine counter-measure vessels (MCMVs) for the Indian Navy, a critical need given the past unsuccessful procurement attempts spanning 15 years. The Navy currently has no MCMVs, making this approval pivotal for maritime security operations such as detecting and neutralizing underwater mines.
Additionally, the DAC has sanctioned the procurement of vital armaments including armored recovery vehicles, electronic warfare systems, integrated inventory management systems, and surface-to-air missiles. These initiatives are expected to enhance mobility, air defense, and supply chain efficiencies, further fortifying India's armed forces.
