Andaman Tourism organises ‘Cuisines of India Festival’

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Tourism Department organised a three-day 'Cuisines of India Festival' beginning Friday, an official said.

Food lovers will be able to relish regional dishes along with local foods at the event held at the Island Tourism Festival Pavilion in Port Blair.

"The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is known as mini India as people from all states settled here pre and post independence. During their stay, they carried their rich culture and tradition, including exotic food. Visitors are going to enjoy all the flavours of India under one roof," Tourism Secretary Jyoti Kumari told PTI.

The food festival will be open for visitors from 4 pm to 10 pm between Friday and Sunday.

"One of the attractions of the festival will be the Nicobari tribal community who will offer exotic lost recipes like 'Kinsola' (sweet steamed Gujia), Sabaline tea (black tea with lemongrass), Hilu-o Hipu (steamed Banana and Coconut sweet confectionery) through their live kitchens," Kumari said.

She said there will be orchestra performances from 6 pm to 8 pm each day. This festival aims to promote diversity, healthy eating, traditional culinary knowledge, and community spirit, all while providing a platform for local talent and entrepreneurs.

"We would like to invite all residents, tourists, and food enthusiasts to join in this unique celebration of India's culinary treasures. To support young entrepreneurs in the culinary field, we have decided to offer cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000, and Rs 5,000 to the top three stalls. The awards will be based on criteria such as creativity, presentation, cleanliness and theme-based decoration," the tourism secretary said.
