The Principal District and Sessions Court in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, delivered a pivotal verdict on Thursday in the notorious "Biryani Abirami" double murder case. The court handed down a life sentence to Abirami for the premeditated murder of her own two children, aimed at maintaining an illicit relationship.
Presiding over the case, Judge PU Semmal imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the accused, with a stipulation that failure to pay would result in an additional three years behind bars. The ruling follows Abirami's grisly crime that has captivated and horrified the state.
Abirami, a resident near Kundrathur, allegedly drugged and killed her children, who were considered hurdles to her affair with Meenatchisundaram, an employee at a prominent local biryani outlet. Despite pleas for leniency from both accused, the court invoked three sections of the Indian Penal Code to reject their appeals and ensure justice for the slain children.
