The Karnataka government has revoked the suspension of four police officers initially held accountable for a tragic stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, that resulted in 11 fatalities and multiple injuries. This decision follows comprehensive inquiries conducted by both a Judicial Commission and a Magisterial committee.
According to an order dated July 28, the suspended officers, including Additional Director General of Police B Dayananda, IPS officer Shekar H Tekkannavar, Deputy Superintendent of Police C Balakrishna, and Police Inspector AK Girish, have been reinstated. Their reinstatement comes amidst ongoing disciplinary proceedings which have yet to ascertain full responsibility.
Furthermore, reports from July 10 and 11 by the Judicial Commission, led by Retired Justice John Michael Cunha, and the Magisterial committee, contributed to this decision. Both bodies deemed the site of the incident, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, inadequate for large events, contributing to the high-profile suspension retraction based on their findings.
