In a significant move towards safeguarding indigenous rights, Assam's Health and Family Welfare, Irrigation, and Guardian Minister of Bishwanath district, Ashok Singhal, distributed land title certificates to 2,145 individuals under the Forest Rights Act in Bishwanath district on Monday. This initiative marks a crucial effort by the district administration, which has issued land title certificates to residents dwelling on forest land under the 2006 Act.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Singhal highlighted the relentless efforts of the BJP-led state government to ensure land rights for indigenous people who have protected Assam's forests. Under the aegis of 82 forest rights committees, certificates were handed to claimants from various constituencies, making a total of nearly 11,982 beneficiaries.
Moreover, the minister addressed the historical context, emphasizing the longstanding connection of the Bodo people to the region. In related efforts, Minister Singhal inaugurated the Sakomatha reconstructed Irrigation Scheme, designed to supply water to 800 hectares of farmland. To ensure the scheme's success, he urged for regular inspections and community involvement. Key dignitaries, including MLAs and district officials, attended the event.
