In a stern move to regulate the online behavior of its employees, the Maharashtra government announced new social media usage guidelines aimed at tackling the rampant misuse of these platforms. BJP MLC Parinay Fuke emphasized balancing personal and professional boundaries and advocated for compliance among all government employees.

The newly issued directives warn against self-promotion or criticism of government policies on social media by any employee, including those on contractual terms. The guidelines apply across the board, covering officers in local bodies, boards, corporations, and public undertakings, urging them to maintain discretion in their online interactions.

While the guidelines caution against using social media for self-glorification, they allow the use of platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram for intra-office communications. Employees are advised to responsibly separate professional content from personal accounts, with explicit restrictions against showcasing government-associated imagery or assets online without proper authorization.
