In light of Assam's ongoing eviction of illegal settlers from reserve forests, Nagaland has ramped up security on its borders, fearing a surge of displaced individuals into the state. Director General of Police Rupin Sharma has called for public cooperation and law enforcement vigilance to manage potential illegal entries.
Sharma clarified that those affected by Assam's drive are settlers who had encroached on protected forest lands. With concerns over unauthorised influx into Nagaland, increased patrolling and checkpoints have been established on the Assam-Nagaland border.
Authorities emphasise the need for individuals to have the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Nagaland legally, while stressing that residents and officials report any suspicious activity to prevent illegal immigration. Efforts include potential tenant registration to monitor transient populations.
