On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combat human trafficking more effectively. The agreement, signed in the presence of Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, focuses on enhancing the capabilities of RPF personnel to prevent crimes against women and children.

The MoU signing ceremony featured key figures, including Shivani Dey, Deputy Secretary at NCW, and S. Sudhakar, DIG/Projects at RPF. In conjunction with the MoU, the NCW released an anti-human trafficking booklet. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar highlighted the severity of trafficking, emphasizing that women and girls are often the primary victims.

Vijaya Rahatkar praised the RPF's efforts in rescuing over 65,000 trafficked and lost children over four and a half years. RPF Director General Manoj Yadava asserted that Indian Railways is crucial in deterring trafficking due to its widespread presence. The partnership with NCW aims to enhance the RPF's operational and outreach capabilities.

The MoU outlines the implementation of training programs and sensitization efforts for RPF personnel. It also includes public awareness campaigns at railway stations and on trains. With over 750 Anti-Human Trafficking Units already in place, the collaboration intends to boost surveillance and swift responses to potential trafficking incidents, aiming for a zero-tolerance policy against this crime.
