The Ministry of Women and Child Development announced on Friday that there are currently no plans to raise the honorarium for anganwadi workers and helpers under the POSHAN scheme. Minister of State, Savitri Thakur, addressed the Lok Sabha, clarifying that these workers are considered honorary, voluntarily serving their local communities in child care and development roles.
The last adjustment to these honorariums took place on October 1, 2018. Presently, workers at regular anganwadi centres receive Rs 4,500 per month, while those at mini-centres receive Rs 3,500. Anganwadi helpers are paid Rs 2,250 monthly. Additional performance-based incentives of Rs 500 for workers and Rs 250 for helpers supplement these payments.
Despite questions regarding potential increases, Thakur emphasized that no current proposals are under review, limiting immediate financial changes for these essential community workers actively contributing to child welfare.
