In a decisive move to enhance electoral roll transparency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday a substantial increase in remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and their supervisors. The financial boost aims to recognize the critical work of these personnel in maintaining impartial electoral rolls.
This is the first revision of its kind since 2015, with significant pay hikes across the board. BLOs will see their annual pay doubled to Rs 12,000, while BLO Supervisors will now receive Rs 18,000. Additionally, the remuneration for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) has been set at Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively.
The ECI's decision also includes a special incentive of Rs 6,000 for BLOs involved in Special Intensive Revision efforts, starting in Bihar. The commission stated that this enhancement underscores its commitment to fair compensation for the hard-working individuals integral to the electoral process.
