The Women's Polytechnic in Aizawl became a hub of cultural activity as Mizo textiles took the spotlight during National Handloom Day celebrations on Monday. Artisans, students, and officials gathered to pay tribute to Mizoram's rich handloom sector, showcasing its significance and potential through a series of engaging activities.
Assistant Director of the Weavers' Service Centre, Utpal Ch. Baro, opened the closing session with a welcome address, setting an enthusiastic tone. Chief Guest Elizabeth Hmar, Joint Director of the Commerce & Industries Department, stressed the importance of handloom in local culture and economy, pledging government support for global promotion of Mizoram's textiles.
The celebrations concluded with a vibrant fashion show by the polytechnic's students, highlighting the artistic range of Mizo handwoven fabrics. Simultaneously, nationwide events celebrated handloom heritage, culminating with the central government's 11th National Handloom Day at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, attended by domestic and international dignitaries.
