The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted an interim stay on legal proceedings against YouTuber Elvish Yadav, who is embroiled in a controversial rave party case. Allegations have surfaced that snake venom and other illegal drugs were supplied and consumed during the event.
A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Joymalya Bagchi has issued notices to involved parties, including the Uttar Pradesh government and complainant Gaurav Gupta, asking them to respond to Yadav's plea. Yadav approached the Supreme Court to quash the chargesheet and summons issued against him, after the Allahabad High Court previously dismissed his plea for relief in May.
The Supreme Court has ordered a halt to all legal proceedings against Yadav for now, while notices were given to respondents. Charges against Yadav include violations of the Wildlife Protection Act, IPC, and NDPS Act, linked to an FIR in Noida's Sector-49. The case has attracted significant media attention, partly due to Yadav's celebrity status. His defense argues that no illegal substances were recovered, and questions the competence of the informant to file the FIR.
