In a striking debut, shares of National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) ended the first day of trade at a 17% premium over the issue price of Rs 800 on Wednesday.

Opening at Rs 880, a 10% rise from the issue price, the stock surged to an intraday high of Rs 943.85 before closing at Rs 936 on the BSE.

The robust demand led to a market valuation of Rs 18,720 crore. This IPO, comprising entirely of an Offer For Sale component, marked NSDL's entry as the second publicly traded depository in India.
