In a fiery session of the Vidhan Sabha, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing critique of the Aam Aadmi Party's former administration, accusing them of careless financial practices. Gupta highlighted how the previous government, led by Arvind Kejriwal, misled citizens by funding freebies, claiming they were free but ultimately impacting Delhi's financial health.
Gupta pointed out that instead of vital infrastructure development, the taxpayer's money was spent on advertising and non-priority schemes, leading to a fiscal deficit. She revealed that no significant assets were introduced, despite high expenditure, leaving the capital with a budget shortfall of ₹8,600 crore and a severe decline in developmental activities.
In response, Leader of Opposition Atishi deflected blame to the national government, arguing that Delhi's financial woes stem from inadequate tax returns from the Centre. Atishi argued that the central BJP government is leveraging the CAG report politically against them, despite the city's rising income tax contributions.
