In response to the heavy barrage of rainfall, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde embarked on an inspection tour of Mumbai on Tuesday to evaluate the impact of the deluge which submerged various parts of the city and adjoining Thane district. Some areas recorded rainfall exceeding 250 mm within 24 hours, paralyzing daily activities.

Exploring affected locales, Shinde was joined by MLA Dilip Lande, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, and other senior officials. At the Municipal Corporation's Emergency Management Department, Shinde highlighted his visits to key sites, including the Mithi River and Vikhroli Park Site, and underlined the commendable vigilance of BMC officials amidst the intense scenario.

Shinde affirmed that swift relief measures are in progress, with the mobilization of 525 operational pumps, the establishment of 10 mini and 6 large pumping stations, along with the aid of NDRF teams relocating residents from high-risk zones and providing necessary sustenance and healthcare support. Measures such as geo-netting in landslide-prone areas and distributing food essentials are underway to mitigate the impact. He called on citizens to remain indoors and advised companies to facilitate remote working for employees during the weather crisis.
