Uttarakhand Pioneers Sustainable Water Management with New Recharge Scheme

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand unveiled a bold initiative to tackle the growing water crisis by launching the 'Direct Injection Water Source Recharge Scheme'. During a program at Vidhan Sabha Bhawan in Bhararisain, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami alongside Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan inaugurated the scheme in partnership with Swami Ram University, Jollygrant. A photo collection titled 'Vibrant Bird of Kotdwar' was also released at the event.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister affirmed the government's commitment to resolving the water scarcity facing the state through technological innovations. 'This initiative marks a significant step in water conservation,' he stated. Assembly Speaker Bhushan emphasized that water conservation is not only crucial for the environment but is the future lifeline of Uttarakhand.
The initiative aims to enhance groundwater recharge to secure future water supplies. An MoU signed on July 8, 2025, between local institutions and Swami Ram University facilitates project implementation. The scheme involves treating and injecting rainwater into inactive hand pumps, with initial efforts focusing on Gairsain and Chaukhutia. Experts from the university demonstrated the process, which promises a sustainable water management solution.
