Assam is on high alert as weather forecasts indicate heavy to very heavy rainfall over the state in the coming days, including in Greater Guwahati. This has raised concerns about worsening waterlogging, disrupted traffic, and increased landslide risks, particularly in vulnerable areas. Local authorities are actively monitoring developments and maintaining emergency response readiness.

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Assam has issued advisories urging residents to exercise caution, especially after recent landslides and blockages. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant, plan their travel with awareness of potential interruptions, and avoid unnecessary movements during heavy downpours.

People living in low-lying or hillside areas should prepare for possible flooding or landslides by stocking essentials like medicines and candles. Residents are also encouraged to contact the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) or the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) for assistance, and to stay updated with official weather reports and advisories from local agencies.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Assam and several northeastern states will see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms through September 21, with some regions, like Arunachal Pradesh, expecting more intense rainfall on specific dates. Recent data shows notable rainfall in districts such as Sonitpur and Kamrup, with consistent monitoring by weather authorities.

Several districts reported significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Sonitpur recording the highest at 14 cm. Notable downpours were also observed in regions like Sualkuchi and Chouldhuwaghat, indicating a continued pattern of heavy rainfall affecting the area. Authorities remain focused on ensuring public safety during this adverse weather period.
