In a significant move to revive India's historic maritime heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on September 20. He will assess the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, as confirmed by an official release from the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

Once a bustling trade hub in the Indus Valley Civilisation, Lothal is a testament to India's maritime prowess. The NMHC project aims to celebrate this legacy by blending historical preservation with modern innovation. This initiative reflects one of Modi's 'Panch Pran' pledges: preserving ancient heritage. The project promises to transform Lothal into a state-of-the-art destination encapsulating education, entertainment, and research, while boosting the local economy and creating jobs.

The NMHC will feature globally competitive infrastructure including the tallest lighthouse museum, a floating restaurant, and a Maritime University. This colossal project, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,500 crore, extends over 375 acres, promising a futuristic peek into India's maritime past. Modi's visit underscores the importance of the NMHC in advancing 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi' and positioning India as a leader in maritime tourism and research, furthering the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
