Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the city's first large-scale biogas plant at Nangli Dairy on Saturday, marking a significant advancement for waste management and green energy in the national capital. The facility aims to process cattle dung and municipal waste.
The 200-tonne-per-day capacity plant will convert these materials into compressed biogas (CBG) and manure, contributing to cleaner drains and reduced Yamuna River pollution. It's anticipated to generate about 14,000 cubic metres of raw biogas daily, equivalent to 5.6 tonnes of CBG, and supply Indraprastha Gas Limited.
Criticizing the previous state administration, Gupta blamed delays since 2018 on political inertia, highlighting the central government's role in moving the project forward. She framed the plant as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'dream project' promoting green energy in Delhi.
