At the 10th All India Conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai highlighted the pivotal role of administrative tribunals in the Indian judicial system. He emphasized that these tribunals bridge the gap between the executive and the judiciary, with members hailing from both administrative and judicial backgrounds.
CJI Gavai pointed out that while diversity in tribunal membership brings strength by combining judicial acumen with administrative insight, it also necessitates comprehensive training. He noted that members from administrative backgrounds often need enhanced legal reasoning skills and may be hesitant to make decisions against governmental interests.
To address these challenges, CJI Gavai advocated for regular workshops and training programs conducted by judicial academicians, suggesting they could significantly improve tribunal effectiveness. Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted the conference's role in addressing contemporary challenges, like technological changes within the Central Administrative Tribunal system.
