Leh City in Ladakh witnessed bustling activity on Thursday as residents took advantage of the curfew relaxation, with shops reopening after a week-long closure. Streets were crowded as people enjoyed stepping out, with markets operating from 10 am to 5 pm, offering much-needed relief.
The unrest stemmed from protests demanding statehood and the inclusion of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule, resulting in clashes with police. Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta highlighted ongoing governmental efforts to meet the aspirations of Ladakh's people, expressing optimism for a swift resolution.
In talks with protest leaders, LG Gupta emphasized open dialogue and ongoing initiatives, including advertising for 1,000 job positions and engaging locals in tourism, education, and health sectors. On Wednesday, he chaired a high-level meeting to assess the law and order situation, with officials reporting on security measures after recent violence claimed four lives.
