In a significant financial development, Punjab has reported a remarkable 22.35% increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections, reaching Rs 13,971 crore during the first six months of this fiscal year, according to Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Compared to the same period last year, when the state collected Rs 11,418 crore, this year's growth demonstrates Punjab's robust strategies. The Finance Minister highlighted a jump in the GST revenue growth rate from 5% in early fiscal year 2024-25 to 22.35% in 2025-26.
The state's proactive stance in indirect tax collection and enforcement actions has also yielded positive results. Notably, Rs 246 crore of ineligible Input Tax Credit was blocked, and significant fines during road inspections have collectively bolstered Punjab's tax revenues beyond national averages.
