In a crucial move to streamline cotton procurement, the Union Textiles Ministry has urged cotton-growing states to adhere to minimum support price (MSP) operational norms for the 2025-26 Kharif Cotton Season.
Leading the effort, Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, held a comprehensive review involving key state officials and the Cotton Corporation of India Ltd. The review highlighted strategies to facilitate hassle-free procurement and timely farmer payments.
A record number of 550 procurement centers have been set up, aimed at offering logistical efficiency during peak arrivals. The procurement operations are tailored to regional crop readiness, kicking off from October 1, 2025, in the Northern Zone, followed by staggered dates for the Central and Southern Zones.
