Congress General Secretary (Organisation) and MP KC Venugopal has issued robust support for Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, amid controversy over Gandhi's recent statements in Colombia. The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accuses Gandhi of defaming India.

Speaking in Thiruvananthapuram, Venugopal accused the BJP of diverting attention from its own problems by targeting Gandhi. He insisted, "The democracy of this country is in danger... These people are defaming the country through 'voter chori'... Not Rahul Gandhi. Whenever he tells the truth, these people say he is defaming."

Gandhi, addressing students at EIA University in Colombia, expressed concerns over the state of India's democracy under the current government while acknowledging the country's strength in areas like engineering and healthcare. In contrast, BJP leader NV Subhash accused Gandhi of spreading "false propaganda" against India on foreign soil, branding his statements as "anti-India" and "insulting."
